Why does my notebook freeze when I insert wireless card on battery power?
I have a HP Pavilion ze4400(Yes, it’s kind of old) and everytime I insert a wireless card on battery power it just locks up all i can do is turn off the computer. This also happens when I am plugged in with the wireless card inserted then I unplug it from the wall. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
The wireless pcmcia card requires a significant amount of power. When you are running on battery, the power gets rapidly drawn from the battery and the computer takes a long time to identify and route power to the pcmcia slot to compensate. Basically that system was not well designed to accommodate the power requirements of your card. You may get improved results by upgrading to a larger capacity battery that is designed for your laptop. Be careful in where and what you buy in this regard. It may also be a driver conflict, but then the result should be the same whether you are plugged or unplugged.
