How do I use the smart wiring that came with my new house to send get internet access to all jacks?
I have a Leviton Voice Data System and internet access through a cable modem.
If your sockets in every room all go back to a central wiring point, then you have a system of cables running in a star type configuration. There should be one (or two) ports in each room make usre they have the modulr in them to give you an RJ45 socket (look at the network card of your PC) to plug your network cable from the PC’s into. Next go to your central wiring point and hopefully you’ll have a row of similar looking ports (ideally numbers to match the number of the socket in the room) these are wirined to each of the ports in the rooms. Next buy an Ethernet switch and a bunch of RJ45 patch cables, plug a patch cable into a port on the switch and then plug it into each of the socket in your central wiring point that is connected to the room.
Now connect a patch cable between your cable modem and the ethernet switch – turn them both on and you should be able to plug into any socket in the rooms and connect to your cable modem and the Internet
