The eight cell battery has longer battery life than the six cell one. As for your laptop, you have to check HP’s website to see which batteries they offer for it. They have a whole chart (pdf) you can look at if you go to the accessories section of the website where the batteries are sold. It will list your computer number and the batteries they have for it.
